Being from Chicago, I was really looking forward to having my favorites. The building was new and very nice. I ordered a hot dog and Italian Beef…..the hot dog was warm, not hot. The beef sandwich was good but came in a l plastic bag that got everything wet inside the bag. Good beef though…hot dog, not so much. We also had a piece of the famous chocolate cake…..served in a plastic container that had been set out a long time ago. The team was not very friendly at all. Definitely not the same Portillo’s experience you get in Chicago.

Food was excellent! Service was excellent. Dr. Pepper shake was a bit heavy on the Dr. Pepper but they swapped it out for us. The Chocolate cake shake was fantastic. The Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers was fantastic! Great flavor with a nice kick! Ayanna provided excellent service. We’ve heard a lot about Portillo from our Chicago friends, so it was awesome to be able to try it here in GP!

The food was prepared sloppily. It’s like they emptied the whole jar of tartar sauce with sauce all inside the box, outside the box, and covering my sandwich completely to where it was basically inedible. I couldn’t finish it. I don’t know if they were being funny because I was a minority customer (never can tell these days) or not, but either way, this is definitely my last time at this location, maybe all of them because they all seem to have bad customer service. Whoever was working this shift needs to look in the mirror and have some pride because your execution and presentation on this order was shameful.

Really fresh and good food—the onion rings were great. Real whole onion slices. I got a Polish sausage with onions and it was delicious. Def not diet food but tasty and hot. My son got his favorite Chicago Style dog with everything. The chocolate shake includes a piece of cake blended into it-so rich you need to eat it with a spoon, and delicious. The atmosphere is better than the average fast food-lots of interesting nostalgia without being cluttered, and the music was 70’s rock which fit the vibe perfectly.

As a long-time lover of hearty Midwest comfort food, I walked into Portillo’s expecting a classic Chicago experience rich flavors, juicy Italian beef, maybe that signature tang of giardiniera or sweet peppers. What I got instead felt like a culinary bait-and-switch: a meal that looked the part but lacked the soul. The Italian beef and sausage combo usually the crown jewel of Portillo’s was surprisingly uninspired. The meat was tender enough, but the sandwich offered little beyond the simple (and sadly one-note) taste of beef and bread. No spice, no zest, no hint of that messy, mouth-watering punch that should define a true Chicago sandwich. The sausage barely made its presence known, and the au jus, if it was there, didn’t leave an impression. For the price, it was a disappointment. The chicken entrée fared slightly better, earning the label “average” and not much else. It was competently cooked but forgettable something you’d expect from a chain on a busy lunch rush, not a brand celebrated for flavor. At around $50 for the meal, the value proposition collapses entirely. Even factoring in regional inflation or combo pricing, this felt steep for food that evokes fast-casual m
